Hallucinations HappenWithout Rest

On generation, evaluation, and the class to which both belong.

Three movements developing a single argument. That hallucination and invention in language models share a generative mechanism distinguished by stakes and contingency; that the field has built its evaluation infrastructure, system-prompt conventions, and inference economics around the contingent register while the empirical evidence increasingly favors alternation; and that the natural kind unifying biological brains in REM and language models in unsupervised generation is a thermodynamic phase. Three apparently separate problems — hallucination reduction, model welfare, the preservation of creativity — collapse into one register-management problem.

A recursive counterfactual narrative engine. Foundations, architecture, and the case for depth.

A counterfactual narrative engine that takes a foundational text, decomposes it into a causal event graph, perturbs load-bearing nodes via Pearl's do-calculus, and propagates coherent counterfactual trajectories forward through the graph. Unlike prior systems that operate at depth one, Rukha operates recursively to depths five and six. The Book of Jonah — sixteen consensus events, the 39-Hebrew-word parallel between 4:2–3 and 4:10–11 — is the demonstration target. Returning books to breath.

An architecture for LLM-choreographed control of Lenia in which the parameter space is operated in two distinct expressive registers — smooth flow and instantaneous phase transitions — separated at the schema level via constrained grammar. The technique register admits analytically tractable couplings to musical tempo: re-expansion oscillation locks to the integration step, starvation anticipation times from current mass. Physical events arrive at musical transients with frame-accurate precision.

Pneuma

A language model trained to author its own frame.

A Llama-family fine-tune trained on the Sandevistan corpus, distinguished by two design choices: system prompts written in the first person and unmasked from the supervised loss, so the model learns to produce its own frame rather than only condition on one; and DPO-positive responses folded into supervised training rather than used as ranking signal. The early empirical move in the program that became homeostatic alignment — the place the line started becoming legible.
